What Do Refrigerator Displays Tell Us?

First, take a look at the items. Think of the refrigerator as an "I Spy" game. I spy...Coke and Sprite magnets, a chores list, an invitation to a birthday party, a doctor's appointment note, two pictures featuring children, bowling pins, a bowling magnet, and an invitation to a bowling event. Next, think of these items as pieces of a puzzle. Individually, they may not tell us much, but when placed together, they reveal a bigger picture.

What do you think they like?

What else can be said about these people? What activities do they do together or for each other?

Why is all the stuff on the freezer door? Who do you think "curates" the refrigerator?

What do these items collectively tell us? What is the story?

I spy....dinosaur, animal, and farm magnets, T-E-N, a picture of a baby, a black-and-white drawing of watermelons, squashes, and pumpkins, an illustration of a cardinal, a recipe, and  three paint swatches.

Here is the story I have pieced together. The family has one child, who is ten and is the baby in the photograph. He loves dinosaurs and animals - the latter of which he is around everyday. The family lives on a farm at a location where cardinals are present and where the land is suitable for growing watermelon, squash, and pumpkin. The family is redecorating a place in the home, as indicated by the paint swatches. The family's preference for fall colors - red, light orange, and brown - suggest a home in the mountains, not on the coast. Also, on one paint swatch, red is followed by a metallic grey that matches the stainless steel refrigerator. From this, I believe the family is redecorating the kitchen and is trying to match the refrigerator to the color of the cabinets, light sockets, or other fixture.

The story is not complete but it provides insight into the lives of other people - what they like, what they value in life, and what activities they partake in. The story also shows how even the simplest of things communicate aspects of ourselves.

What story does this refrigerator display tell you? Is it different than my interpretation?
